The Faculty of Arts at Macquarie University in Sydney is home to a multi-purpose educational performance space, used for everything from live music and musical theatre to film production. To meet the demands of such a varied environment, Technical Officer David Manna sought a versatile moving light capable of delivering both a powerful beam with narrow and wide focus options, as well as additional features such as gobos and framing shutters.

"Our space is primarily used for performance-based education, ranging from live music and musical theatre to film work, so having a versatile fixture that can adapt to all these applications is crucial. As well as functionality, the price point was very important," said David.

To meet that requirement, Gareth Mealing of Show Technology, PROLIGHTS' distributor in Australia, introduced David to the Jet Profile300LT. Built around a 300W white LED source and a motorised zoom range of 4° to 44°, the fixture merges high-precision keylight with the power and reach of a long-throw fixture, incorporating a full effects package, including seven rotating gobos, animation wheel, dual prisms, CMY and CTO colour mixing, and a linear frost filter, in a compact unit. 

"Basically, all the features we rely on across multiple lighting fixtures are now consolidated into a single unit, it was the perfect choice," David confirmed. "These fixtures integrate seamlessly with our existing lighting rig, enhancing both our moving head and static fixtures while introducing valuable new functionality. The optics are exceptional, and the wide zoom range delivers everything from smooth, even coverage to powerful long-throw beams and outstanding aerial effects."

The automated four-blade framing shutters, with individual plane rotation and full curtain effect capability, drew David's particular attention. "The beam-shaping capability is particularly impressive, in how small you can make that surface area relative to how wide the beam is," he remarked. "It's surprising how many features they have packed into such a compact fixture." 

The Jet Profile300LT has proven to be the right choice for a professional environment where versatility, precision, and value need to coexist in a single fixture.
