PROLIGHTS technology is at the heart of
PULSE - Power Under Land, Source of Energy, a new permanent installation located in the courtyard of the Italian
National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) in Rome. The work was created by
Liminal State, a duo of architects and A/V artists known for their performative and installative works that resemble collective rituals, where participants find themselves in a liminal state—on the threshold of perception and awareness.
Commissioned within the IRGIE project (Inventory of Geothermal Resources of the Aeolian Islands),
PULSE investigates geothermal energy as both a resource and a symbol: a latent, cyclical force capable of inspiring a new collective imagination rooted in sustainability and interconnection.
The installation takes the form of a digital monolith composed of two vertical LED walls, mirrored surfaces, heating elements and rock samples extracted from over 1,000 metres underground. The two LED walls were built using eight
PROLIGHTS SigmaPix 39T1X2WF panels—outdoor LED screens with a 3.9 mm pixel pitch, designed for fast assembly and creative configurations.
Integrated into the core structure of
PULSE,
PROLIGHTS fixtures translate the Earth's latent energy into sequences of light that evoke jets, flickers and rhythmic pulsations.
